Yonca provides comprehensive assessment to determine the specific disorder and develop an individualized treatment plan.  Therapy involves exercises, compensatory techniques, use of mindfulness principles to help patients gain internal control of their language skills, and use of technology/AI for exercises and as an augmentative/alternative communication tool.

Not being able to communicate is devastating, leaving people cut off from their loved ones and the world.  Speech/language, auditory comprehension, and reading and writing difficulties are common as a result of strokes, head injury, or progressive neurological diseases.

Speech/language difficulties  include:

  1. Aphasia, a language disorder typically caused by stroke or brain injury, that affects the ability to speak, understand, read, and write.
  2. Dysarthria, resulting from weakness or poor coordination of the muscles used for speech production, leading to slurred or imprecise articulation, often seen in conditions like Parkinson’s disease, multiple sclerosis, or ALS.
  3. Apraxia of speech, a motor speech disorder where the brain has difficulty planning the movements needed to produce speech, even though the muscles themselves are not weak. The underlying causes vary widely, from strokes and traumatic brain injuries to neurodegenerative diseases, brain tumors, and even certain medications.
