Yonca’s approach to cognitive therapy is highly individualized and evidence based, focusing on retraining impaired cognitive skills, teaching compensatory strategies to work around persistent deficits, and utilizing mindfulness techniques to help develop internal control. She uses standardized testing to assess attention, memory, executive functioning and cognitive-linguistic skills. She plans her treatments around test results and patient’s functional needs.  Patients are often assigned web-based exercise programs to practice the skills and strategies they learn in therapy.  Use of technology and AI is incorporated into the therapy program as appropriate.  The goal is to help individuals regain cognitive abilities to the greatest extent possible, improve their functional independence, and enhance their overall quality of life as they navigate the recovery process.

If you have had a traumatic brain injury (TBI), concussion or are suffering from aftereffects of a stroke, brain tumor or other neurodegenerative disorder, cognitive therapy constitutes a cornerstone of rehabilitation.  Cognitive-linguistic disorders often result from damage to areas of the brain responsible for functions like attention, memory, problem-solving, organization, and executive functions. These impairments can profoundly impact an individual’s ability to understand, process, recall and express information, leading to challenges in daily communication and functional independence.
